Taking vitamin D and calcium together, especially if you are a senior are vital. If you do not take sufficient amounts in the right ratio, you will develop osteoporosis. This is what often leads to broken hips in elderly people - it recently happened to my 90 year old mother. Talk to your doctor about the amounts you should be taking. It may range from 1000 IU of vitamin D and 500 mg of calcium on up. It can only help you, but best to get your physician's okay, to make sure it does not interact with any medications you may be taking.

Most parents' biggest worry is that their child will probably be unhappy - that their child will probably be picked on and unpopular due to the fact she is fat. From a teacher's perspective I can completely recognize these motives, but these days my concerns about overweight children and childhood obesity are far far more severe than just a little name-calling.

Hey! I came across your website when I looked for info about supplements. I find it instructive so I bookmarked it as "A Theory of Vitamin Deficiencies as a Risk Factor for Weight Gain | Sasse Guide" and shared it with my assistant who is a doctor. He had some interesting info regarding vitamins also, so I wonder if you have an opinion. I still hesitate about the advantages and potential disadvantages. Regards Ariel

Absolutely. White foods are horrible for you. I am so mad at this point that the food pyramid has lead us to believe that we should have been consuming so many grain based foods for so long. WHOLE grains are best but even they are more caloric than veggies and fruits. The pyramid needs to be modified with veggies and fruits being the MOST consumed foods and something needs to be done to food companies to make them leave the food alone. Additives like stupid hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup are going to be the end of us. Even salad dressings have both so eating a salad can set you back. It seems like there is no winning.

Wow, I wish I would have known about the contest. After my mother passed in 2008 I started gaining weight like crazy and was actually talking to my doctor about getting the lapband. However, I lost my job and that idea was shot down. Now I am working for a company that has strung us alone since November 2010 about getting health insurance, to find out we will NOT be getting insurance to leave me looking for finance options. I feel like I am stuck ..feel like.. I am going to die either way. If I don't get the money to try to pay for it, then I know I will eventually die...so I guess I keep ticking until I can't tick no more..huh?lol. But it was nice of you to have the contest and I hope the individual that won took advantage and has adapted to the life changes. God Bless and Take Care!

I think doctors should push healthy eating habits instead of creating more drugs. So many people have avoided or "cured" (for lack of a better word) cholesterol problems by eating healthier and changing their dietary habits.
